Burano Italy – Catch A Rainbow

Burano Italy – just a boat ride away from Venice

Burano Italy is an island in the Venetian Lagoon in northern Italy; like Venice, it is actually made up of four islands linked by bridges. There is a tradition here, the residents paint their houses these amazing vibrant colors. I heard one theory that said the sailors did this so they could recognize their own homes from the water when they were leaving or returning to the island. Even though we visited on a cloudy day, the colors are still amazing – the photos are not enhanced in any way.

Getting to Burano

It is worth a trip if you are in Venice for more than 3 days. It’s really something special to see with your own eyes, I wouldn’t say there is anything to do that that you can’t do in Venice itself, but it’s nice to see more than one area when traveling. It takes about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes on the number 14 water bus and costs 7.50 each way.
