Green Market Hvar

Shopping is not how I like to spend my time… but if you are going to stay somewhere for more than a week it’s a necessary evil. Here is a Hvar Shopping Guide to help you on your way.

I love to cook, so finding the grocery store is usually my first order of business, followed closely by the drug store. In an effort to keep our bags at the modest 20 Kilo mark, we are buying new toiletries in each city.

GROCERIES

The local market is called Konzum located at  Trg Marka Miličića 8, 21450. There are two in Hvar Town, one right off of the main square, and one further west tucked behind the football field. It’s safe to say more than 1/2 of the market is filled with booze and junk food. Which I guess if you are on the typical tourist bent is just fine. But for longer stays, it makes things a bit difficult.

You can get most of the essentials, and there are a few butcher shops to get quality meat, one located next to the Konzum by the square. There is also a great green market, pictured above. It’s open every day, and all of the merchants have ample product, so you don’t have to get there early in the morning to get the good produce. In the area of the market, there is also a bakery, a specialty meat shop and a fish market.

Unfortunately, the fish market is only available very early in the morning at around 6am, and most of the fish are earmarked by the restaurants. There are bakeries for fresh bread, and snacks scattered throughout the town, all good quality.

PHARMACY

There is a pharmacy in the main square located at Trg svetog Stjepana 18, 21450, if you are facing the bell tower, it’s on your left. You can get medicines, and contact lens solution here.

DRUG STORE

The drug store called Kozmo (CVS, Walgreens type shop) is located just outside of the main square at Dio Aneksa Zgrade Ribarnice, 21460. Once again if you are looking at the bell tower, continue straight to the left of the tower, and down that road about a block. And you’ll find a shop on your right-hand side. This shop has sun lotion, shampoo, toothpaste etc.

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

There are tons of small shops in Hvar Town. You can find pretty cute clothing – shoes, jewelry – anything you might need that you forgot to bring, so don’t worry.
