My Superhero Power Would Be Language

If you could choose a superhero power what would it be?

You know how people always play the “what would your superhero power be” game – well after careful consideration mine would be that I knew every language. So far I love this city, and could see myself living here if it wasn’t for the language barrier. Most people do speak english, but I feel that if you are going to live somewhere you’d better learn the language. Language has never come easily for me. I have been learning Spanish for the last year, and I don’t think I’m any closer to speaking it.

Budapest is a wonder. I was here years ago- and my how it’s changed. I fell in love with it when I was here last, even though it was a short 3 day trip. I was eagerly anticipating my return. I got so much more than I bargained for. I didn’t do a ton of research before we came, I sort of like the element of being surprised. I really don’t like planning, and planning the destinations and travel between them was as much as I could handle pre trip. Budapest is such a vibrant city. It has grown so much since my last visit. We’re staying right in the heart of Pest in district VII. We’re smack in the middle of tons of adorable restaurants and ruin pubs. I fell in Love instantly. The old buildings are so beautiful, so huge and imposing. They loom everywhere threatening to collapse. I am sure it’s safe, but so many of them look like they’ve been forgotten.

We took a walk down to the river last night, and it is majestic. The river flows with a serious and swift current between the two halves of the city. Sitting on the Pest side looking at the castles on the Buda side as the sun went down was breathtaking. On our walk home, we got  hit by a thunderstorm, we ducked into a bar to escape the downpour and sat for a beer as the rain came down in sheets. I looked over and saw a girl I recognized. She had been on our flight from Amsterdam to Budapest just the day before, what a small world. We sat with her and her companions and made plans for a picnic. So far, I have to say two thumbs up.
