Stari Grad Apartment Rental
We went to the island of Hvar to stay in a rental we booked in Hvar Town. We were there for 2 weeks, and took a day trip to the other side of the island to the oldest town in Croatia, Stari Grad. We fell in LOVE – we went back to Hvar Town, grabbed a bag, and left our Airbnb there, for a new Airbnb in Stari Grad.  Pictured above and below.  We spent 5 days in this wonderful apartment on the residential side of the bay, about a block walk down to the water.
I chose the apartment because I saw in the photos that it had an outdoor grill, and I was really missing our grill in Dubrovnik. There’s nothing like buying fresh fish right off the boat in the morning, marinating them all day and grilling them up for dinner.
When we arrived we had the warmest welcome from the host family that owns the house, and the ground floor apartment we were to stay in.  They didn’t speak a word of English and us not a word of Croatian, but we got on just fine. The daughter of the family called up and spoke to us to give us all the info we needed.
The space was wonderful, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on that grill.
Much to my surprise –  the daughter told me that her mother wanted to cook for us on the grill because she had heard how much I was looking forward to it. She prepared a traditional meal, grilled fish that she bought from the market early that morning, grilled zucchini and eggplant – chard and potatoes, a fresh tomato salad and bread.
The meal was amazing!! Everything was dressed with olive oil made from the olives in the family orchard.
The amazing hospitality and kindness of this family only made us love the town more. And we didn’t even yet know we were about to meet an amazing group of people we are proud to now call friends.
Stari Grad put her spell on us.
