Dubrovnik Cable Car

Sometimes the touristy thing is the right thing to do

I know, I know. It’s a touristy thing to do to take the Dubrovnik cable car, but it’s a must do. It’s the best view of the whole city you can find and it’s worth the 120 Kuna (round trip) for the ticket.

The ride is very, short less than 5 minutes, but smooth as can be. You can’t really take photos because the car is enclosed by glass windows, but you sure can take them when you get to the top.

You also have the option of taking the cable car one way for 70 Kuna, and walking the trail the other way. We didn’t realize this was an option until we hit the summit. We probably would have walked up, then take the car back down.

We started our ascent at around 5:30. We had planned to go at about 6/6:15 but when we arrived there was no line to get on the car. This is very rare, we attempted the trip the day prior and the line was over an hour long, so we aborted the mission and rescheduled for the following day.

Have a Meal at the Top

We had dinner at Panorama restaurant which was actually very good. I worry that some places don’t feel the need to produce quality meals, because they are offering a view of the city or the sea. This wasn’t the case, the food and dining experience were both great. The meal was on the expensive end but that is to be expected. If you want to read about it, you can right HERE

We wandered around the old fort at the top of the hill, took in the view then got back in line to take the cable car back down to the old city once it got dark. It felt like a Peter Pan fairy tail, descending over the twinkling walled city.

I recommend taking a ride if you have the time.  You purchase the tickets at the base of the hill, where the car departs, you can’t miss it.
